This thing is amazing! We camped out in november in NoVA temps in high 30/ at night and we were super warm in our tent with this thing on low. 2 1 lb tanks lasted 7 hours on low. We slept like babies. The batter which I had from my cordless tool kit worked to power the fan perfectly. I brought both batteries and used one each night but they weren’t even on low power. The fan function is critical. Don’t buy one without it. It’s light and easy to use. Must be level to light the pilot but you want that :). Would buy again 100%

Update- The igniter requires a separate AAA battery. Simply unscrew the igniter and drop a AAA battery in with + pointing up toward the top of the button. So we really like our Dewalt Portable Heater… even though we returned the first one. Our second one has the exact same problem as the first heater. Thanks to someone who commented on this review I have learned that the igniter requires a AAA battery. I don’t know how I missed this fact… I scanned the directions multiple times and never saw it mentioned.Other notes– The heater puts out quite a bit of heat. We use it for our daughter’s sporting events. As long as the wind isn’t blowing too hard (more on that in a second) it works great.- The lights and USB output for both of our units work, but we have never really had the need to use either. I guess we could use it to charge our phone in a pinch, but it hasn’t been necessary.- Propane life is pretty fair. Two small tanks will last 4 to 8 hours, depending on your setting.- If the wind blows much over a few MPH you are in danger of having the pilot go out.- it is kinda tricky to turn the nob from lighting the heater to another setting. The nob has a tendency to just turn off the heater… a little practice and this isn’t an issue.- I have never really noticed any types of fumes. This doesn’t mean that you should use it in the closet of your house, but I have never smelled a strong odor from the fumes (unlike something like kerosene)- Battery life… we charge the Dewalt battery after each use and we have never had a problem with the battery dying while in use. The battery mainly powers the blower, so it is not like it pulling heavy-duty current. One nice thing is that the batteries also fit Dewalt’s most excellent portable fan. This is a nice winter/summer combo for people who spend a lot of time outside.- I suspect that if you used this heater in conjunction with one of those EZGoProducts pop-up tents you would be able to survive an ice age…. just make sure that you vent it well enough to get out the co2 and co fumes. So while it seems like there are quite a few negatives the fact is that this thing works great if you are in a spot where the wind isn’t blowing too strongly. We really do like it.

I also have the “Big Buddy” competitor to this DeWalt heater. The big difference is that this unit has a fan, and that makes a HUGE difference in heating my garage workshop. The Big Buddy has some nice features, but it only keeps you warm if you’re right in front of it. This one actually puts out warm air to heat a small room.Update: Jan 28, 2021: Another advantage of this unit over the “Big Buddy” is that it uses MUCH less propane. Antidotally, it seems to last at least 3X longer than the “Big Buddy”. I’m not sure if this is pure efficiency or if it’s just that hot air (instead of just radiant heat) is a much better way to heat my particular workshop

This is an updated review. Our first one would not fire up without an external fire source. After reading the directions several times and hitting the igniter button a few dozen times, I gave up and used a candle lighter to fire it up.Once working, it heated well and we were very pleased. After being irritated about our inability to return this, we decided to buy a second one from a store and file a warranty claim with DeWalt over the one that wasn’t working. I was astonished when the second one had the same problem. Now, I am a bit of a DeWalt fanboy, and I have a no less than about 15 DeWalt devices including drills, saws, a sander and a stock of batteries, so I was having trouble believing that there were 2 defective units in a row from 2 different sources. I asked my 12 year old son to poke around online and see what he could find, and he saw some posts about the unit needing a battery in igniter itself. I reread the directions a few more times and finally, NOT in the setup ANYWHERE, but in the trouble shooting guide, I saw a reference to a possible bad battery.Since this unit uses the DeWalt rechargeable batteries for the fan and lights, I assumed any additional power needs would come from that, but I was wrong. There is indeed a battery compartment behind the igniter that needed one AAA battery. I put one in and BAM, fired right up.So now I have 2 of these units and they both work perfectly. I bought an external hose and I hook them up to 20lb propane tanks. I get about 20-25 hours of use out of a single tank on the highest setting.I checked the tip over function on both and it works well, and the heater puts off pleasant heat, with the ability to drop the intensity a bit with either the lower heat setting or by turning the fan off. Most of the unit stays cool enough to handle, but the metal grill on the front gets very hot.I use 4 amp rechargeable batteries for the fan and I get about 8-10 hours of use out of it before it needs a recharge. All in all we are ultimately very satisfied with the heaters, and if they could do a slight fix to their instructions, this would be a 5-star product.—ORIGINAL REVIEW—This was purchased as a family Christmas gift so we could heat our garage while we watched movies on our new projector, and because we like to use our garage as a little family gym. The heater does a decent job on heating the large area, but the starter on ours never worked.I was able to start it using an external flame. I tried to initiate a refund and Amazon would not let me despite the fact that I was within the return window, then I tried to contact the seller and 4 days later they have not responded. So now I have a heater that doesn’t work properly and I either have to see about pursuing a warranty claim through DeWalt or I have to deal with it.Very unhappy overall with the experience and would never recommend this seller.

This is a great work site heater. Don’t expect it to heat a large space., depending on the insulation and size, it will raise the temp a few degrees. I wanted something I could put by my work set up and give me some heat to warm my hands. This is perfect. The two bottles last about 8 hours depending on how high you set the temp.

It self lites and works indoors perfect. Can last up to 16 hours with two tanks or you can rig it to work with a larger tank. Portable and very useful

Gives off good heat for a work area – pretty good too for outdoor like sports game etc. would warm up a couple sitting together.I recommend.

We use it at our sons outdoor sporting events. It works great and puts out a tremendous amount of heat with the fan on. The safety feature for tipping works really well. My husband picked up the heater while it was running and slightly tipped it. The unit turned off immediately.

Great heater work really good and heat my garage perfectly. Easy to use and setup.

A moderate gust of 10 mph will blow it out, then if you run it on high for too long, maybe 10 minutes, the tank freezes and no more heat.It did work well in the back of my box truck though.

Apparently I got a bad one. It did put out good heat, but it went through two propane bottles in one hour and my nose burned while it was heating. Tried setting it as low as it stay lit, but just sucked the gas down. Two propane bottles per hour @$6.00 per bottle. I could install a full heatpump for that kind of money!

Hears up 300 sg ft tiny home within a few minutes, having the fan on is key and alone makes the product worth buying. The fan isn’t too loud, I love the white noise so it doesn’t bother me at all. The light lumen output is pretty decent, lights up 1st floor of my cabin. Yes it’s more expensive than the closest Mr. Heater model but having the fan makes alot of difference. For those who worry about carbon monoxide, I have a new sensor / alarm that shows the PPM or the amount of carbon monoxide inside my tiny home. With no windows open and the heater running all through the night not once did the alarm detect even 1 part per million of carbon monoxide.

I have been looking for a portable propane heater. I thought about other brands but saw this branded by Dewalt and thought I would give it a try. I cannot compare it to other propane heaters since this my first. Unboxing and set up was easy. No parts to put together other than installing the two 1lb propane tanks and Dewalt battery.Like other reviews, it took me a few minutes to realize the ignitor requires a AAA battery (not provided – once that was installed, it started up). The instructions are not that great. This does require a 20v Dewalt battery to run the fan and light (not provided). The doors for the propane bottles and ignitor/usb ports are a little flimsy. It requires two 1lb propane bottles (not provided).I live in a block house in FL. The temps dropped to 20 degrees at night this week. I decided to test this heater. I placed the heater in a 10 x 10 room and opened the window to get the temp down. I placed the heater in the room with 2 full 1lb bottles and two carbon monoxide detectors. I closed the window, interior door, turned the heater on low, turned on the fan and left the room (although the instructions advise do not leave the unit unattended). The room heated up within 10 minutes to about 73 degrees. Overall, the two 1lb propane bottles lasted about 6 hours on low, the CO detectors did not go off in the enclosed space, and 4 amp 20v battery for the fan still has 3 out of 3 charge lights. The fan does have a noticeable hum while running.I ran the heater until the bottles were empty. I installed two new bottles to try it outside (don’t forget to turn off the temp or propane will start once the bottle is installed). Moving it while it is running will shut off the heater, but the fan will keep blowing unless you turn it off. Outside, if there is a slight breeze the pilot will shut off. It puts out a lot of heat, but you needed to be close to the heater to get the benefits. The fan does not really help if there is a breeze. I needed to put the heater up wind, so the breeze pushed the heat to me. Not sure if it would have stayed on in wind.Next tried it in my shop 12 X 15 no insulation. It heated the shop within 20 mins. No CO alarms went off. I ran it on high and it got really warm. However, the 2 bottles only lasted about an hour and a half.I have purchased the 20lb bottle hose attachment but have not got it yet. I will try it and update the review. I also purchased the 1lb bottle refill adapter. Easy to use and a money saver compared to purchasing new bottles when they run out.Overall, I do like the heater for the short time I’ve owned it. The fan is a great option for this type of heater. I wish the fan had more than one speed and was a little quieter. The tip over feature works. The front grill will get hot with use, so be careful. I like the portability and it does not weigh a lot. Do follow the instructions and hold the valve down for 30 seconds when lighting the pilot. I light is bright and a nice option. I did not use the USB options but I’m sure they work. I thought about hooking up an USB fan in front of the heater but didn’t. It feels well-built and solid although the doors could be a little thicker. It can be hung on a wall if desired. This heater does cost more than most propane heaters but I’m happy with it for the short time I have owned it.

I use it in my shed and it works great. It is a little noisy with the fan on
