I have 2 Nutone 9093 units and over many, many years I have had others as well. The design is a great design – you get either heating for the bathroom or you can vent the steam from the shower out of the room plus you get an overhead light. The older original units holding the blower motors were heavy and made from non-galvanized steel sheet. They were able to absorb small vibrations that the fans would cause when they picked up lint and dust on their squirrel wheel blades. ( I wish that I had kept the older models and painted the parts that were showing signs of rust instead of buying newer units). The newer models have units that are made from galvanized steel which does not rust like the older models but is not as “solid or stiff”. The current units are more likely to vibrate more from out of balance blower motor shafts or squirrel wheel fans that become coated with dust and lint. Consequently, to insure that the units are not noisy, I have to clean my units twice a year – which includes removing the unit from the ceiling (easy to do), cleaning out all of the dust, and lint and tweaking the blower motor shafts so the squirrel wheel fans are balanced.I am always amused by the number of bathrooms that I have visited that have ceiling vent fans and either they don’t work or they are noisy and vibrate. If you don’t maintain units such as these they will get really noisy and/or stop working.Units such as these have to be maintained and if they are the units will heat and vent your bathroom perfectly for a long time. Nutone maintains a good stock of replacement parts if you ever need them.I gave the unit 4 stars because it takes a bit more maintenance that I would like – but they are few other units available which give you both heat and vent in one unit.

Really only needed the whole internal part to drop in as a replacement for a unit where all parts needed repairing. Cost was about the same and big time saver compared to buying all the spare parts to repair old unit. The original unit was from the early 1980’s. Can confirm that there are no design changes and the guts of this unit fitted into the ceiling mount in the ceiling where the old unit had been – without needing to install the newer sleeve that came with this. Direct drop in. Took a couple of minutes. This new unit did include a night light option and wiring that was in addition to my original unit. The extra wires for this go to the Molex connector plug. If your older ceiling mount is not wired for a night light – you can safely ignore these additional wires when plugging into the old ceiling mount. (Disclaimer – have an electrician check this if you are not sure).

I have a 50 year old house. Not sure how long the old bathroom fan, identical to the Broan 9093WH, has been there. The noise level was bad. About 65dB. It was a relief to turn it off. The noise level was very bothersome. I didn’t want to cut a whole new opening so I ordered the 9093WH 70 CFM 1500w fan, heater, light and nightlight unit. I removed the entire motor/heater/fan assembly from the old unit and the new assembly fit exactly into the old can in the ceiling. I plugged the wiring harness connector of the new assembly into the old connector on the can. Everything works. I don’t have wiring installed for the nightlight as the old unit didn’t have one. This was the easiest fan replacement I have ever done. The best part is the sound level of the new exhaust fan is only 50 dB. When searching all the options for units with heat and light, I was leaning toward other models because of the lower sone ratings. This unit is rated at 3 or 4 sones. 4 sones is about 49 dB. It is so much quieter than the old unit. Some reviews say this fan is loud. No, it is not. My old fan was loud. This one you can hear, but it doesn’t assault your senses like the old one. BTW, I never write reviews. I thought I should in case you are considering this unit and are wondering about the noise level.

The fan on my old unit died so I bought this one hoping that it would be a perfect match and minimize the headache of replacing it. I can confirm that this is a perfect match for my old unit with no design changes of significance. My old unit was in my house prior to me moving here in 2013, so it’s older than that. Instead of replacing the old ceiling housing with the new housing provided, I simply loosened two screws to remove the “guts” of the new unit. At that point, all I had to do was have someone hold the guts in place while I attached it with two screws in the existing ceiling housing…and then simply connected the wire harness. Everything works perfectly. It was an easy install, no rattling noises or anything from the new unit. Very happy with my purchase.

I had a 27 year old unit that had failing fan motors. The cost of a new unit was about the same as parts, so I bought a new unit, hoping the guts would fit so no ductwork changes would be needed. I am glad they did not change the product. The old parts came out and the new went in. I discarded the new housing. I am glad there was no planned obsolescence!

I replaced a Nutone unit that was installed in 1972. I did need to replace whole the unit. The metal round housing was the same size, however to attach the main component, the hook was in a different position, so I did need to take out the original housing. I did not wire the night light. I had just 4 wires to work with from the old installation. The sound level is about the older unit. The units works well so far!

So far so good. Fairly quite. But I have noticed at times the fan making odd/louder than usual noises.

First, whoever wrote the instructions did not do a good job on the wiring diagram. I was able to replace my 30 year old vent with this one within 3 hours. I was able to use the old mounting brackets and it fit beautifully in. It’ snot easy to install, especially if you’re not electrically versed. It’s nice and quiet for its size, and the heat is a blast to use! I even got to use the old vent cover to retain our old vintage look.

Great product, but give yourself plenty of time for installation. Directions are excellent, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

I read some of the reviews for this and hoped it would work out for me. I wanted to use the same mounting/housing that my old Nutone fan/heater used. I was able to do so and literally had this thing installed and working within 10 minutes. I am SO HAPPY. I’ve had to replace bathroom fans before and this has never been the case. I just ordered a second one for my other bathroom.

Even though had to make a few updates to the existing setup, mostly due to age, this heater matched exactly. Also, I liked the option of choosing whether or not to install the night light. Plus, the heater works great during the cold months.

I brought in an electrician to install this. He worked a while to get the light to work, then realized the black wire which was supposed to activate the light did not work. He changed the wire around to the night light and it did activate the main light. So to avoid sending back this mess, waiting for a new one, then paying him a second time, we left it as is …. with no light night. Very poor quality control for a $300+ apparatus.

I purchased this fan combo two years old and it was fine until I had to change a light bulb. It was necessary for me to contact the manufacturer to find out how to do this. It was incredibly hard to do this simple manuever because the entire unit had to be removed from the ceiling to change the light bulb. It was extremely difficult to get it back into the ceiling and the entire light bulb change took about one hour of frustration. Obviously this is a design flaw.
